IMPORTANT INFORMATION!

Here is the magic question.........

When can a college coach contact me and
when should I contact them?

Players may contact college coaches as often as
they want via, phone, e-mail or snail mail.  Many
coaches will tell you that persistance is a good thing.

One of the best ways to get recruited is attend the
summer camp of the school(s), in which you are
interested. Some schools have what they call a
"College Combine" camp. This is sometimes just a one day camp. This camp is for Juniors and Seniors to come and
play with actual members of that school's team. This too,
is a great way to get recruited.

Side Note:
Videos: Some schools accept videos of players and others
do not. You may want to contact that school before you
mail anything out. If you do send a video make sure it is
no more than about 20 minutes long. This is truly not the
best way for a coach to judge you as a player but it does
not hurt to send one with your BIO, if you want. Think of
this as something you can do in addition but do not
depend on it and it alone.

*There are different rules for coaches regarding

when they can contact a player.

Rules are stated below.......

There are no restrictions on coaches of DIII schools.

DI School Coaches:
These coaches are not allowed to phone or e-mail you
personally until July 1st following your Junior year
of High School. However, they are allowed to mail you
general school/athletic information and those mailings
may start as early as September 1st of your Junior year
of High School.

DII School Coaches:
These coaches are not allowed to phone or e-mail you
personally until June 15th following your Junior year of
High School. Like the DI schools, they too, may send you
general/athletic information regarding their school starting
as early as September 1st of your Junior year of

High School.

Starting on the designated date that the coach is allowed
to contact you personally, he/she is still only allowed to make one personal contact with you per week.  This NCAA rule is in place so that coaches will not harass players.

VERBAL COMMITMENTS:

Yes, every year you hear about "Suzie" who at the ripe old age of 15/16, a Sophomore in High School, gave a verbal
commitment to a DI or DII school.   You wonder how this can happen when the rules are that no coach can contact a player or make offers before certain dates.

Any player is welcome to publicly state where they wish to commit to play for college. When a player makes this announcement it means that she and the coach have "verbally" agreed that she would be a good fit for that team and the coach "will be" making her an offer at the
appropriate time.  This all takes place because the player
has stayed in touch with the coach not the other way
around. Remember, players can call coaches themselves
as often as they want. The coach can not make a phone
call to you but you can call them prior to the dates mentioned above.

There is nothing in writing and any player who

does verbally commit has the choice to change their minds

at any time before their name gets on that dotted line. It is against NCAA rules for a coach to have a player sign anything before the Letters of Intent, which do not come to the player until their Senior year of High School. Normally
in the winter months.

This information comes to you via Member Service
Representative at NCAA. Please call them if you have any
questions or concerns. We have provided a link to their site
